RHSV Objectives
General objectives include:
-
To foster students’ education and future goals, potentially resulting in a handful of health professionals.
-
To expose school students to the multitude of health careers available to them.
-
To provide opportunities for students to be able to reflect on their personal values, interests and goals and how these might fit with a career in health.
-
To provide opportunities for students to interact and learn from the experiences of Rural Health Club presenters.
-
To give positive feedback to students on their ability to overcome barriers to pursuing a health career.
-
To emphasise the multidisciplinary aspect of health careers.
-
To encourage school students to stay at school and attain the best possible education.
-
To enable school students to interact with health students in a non-intimidating, fun but educational environment.
-
To promote healthy lifestyles and healthy choices to school students.
It is the sort of fun and creative interaction that occurs in RHSVs that will lead to a greater trust of health workers in the community; an increased likelihood of accessing health care; a greater chance of remaining at school; an improved understanding of cultural differences; and consequently and most importantly, improved health outcomes.
